Rita Dias was born in 1976, studied Art History at the Faculdade de Letras at the University of Lisbon, and later Archaeology, in which she improved her technical drawing skills in the context of archaeological escavations, namely lithic technology and ceramics.
Although the practice of drawing was present from an early age, the experience of participating in the Urban Sketchers movement brought the act of drawing to the center of her daily life. She participated in at least one of their collective exhibitions, at Fundação Mário Soares in 2013. She also attended several workshops related to graphic diaries with the illustrator Richard Camara.
In 2013 she began self-publishing several zines, collecting drawings made during the rehearsals of theater groups, such as Artistas Unidos and Primeiros Sintomas.
In addition to her more personal work, she has illustrated short stories, record covers and books. She works mainly with Chinese ink, and during 2019 studied printmaking with artist Joana Latka at Atelier Contraprova.
In 2019, she began to emply embroidering techniques in her work, adapting and creating new designs for this medium. In 2021, she tutored embroidery workshops, as part of the Bairro em Festa Festival (Largo Residências) and Mercado P´la Arte (Plataforma P´la Arte).
In July, for the very first time, she exhibited these pieces, at the bookstore-gallery Tinta nos Nervos.
