Um dois, um dois. (One two, one two)
February 24th to March 26th 2022
Um, dois; um, dois presents a new, never-seen-before series of graphic objects created by Óscar Raña.
Raña’s practice has brought together creative tools and approaches that come from the distinct world of visual arts, graphic design, comics and illustration, leading to an endless exploration of compositions of lively colors, and that find themselves between figuration and narrative on the one end, and abstracting dissolution on the other. At one time minimalist and psychedelic, Raña’s images unite apparently contradictory territories.
With several projects of artist’s books, zines and unidentified publications under his belt, the author has contributed often to that porous field of experimental narrative/sequential graphics. Every image of his is teeming with elements – whether figurative, formal, structural or compositional – that create connections to one another, and make their re-reading, requalification and reconsideration compulsory, in a ceaseless search for overall meaning. ~
The ten fine art print images presented in the present exhibition are particularly dedicated to a precise and dynamic geometry, where one seeks the emergence of movement, volume and harmony.
An additional series of smaller original drawings will reveal the artist’s processes, as well as the material diversity of his work. Moreover, a few animated projects will be shown.
A new publication related to the exhibition will be launched in tandem with the opening.
