LOVELY ATTACKERS
digital typographic drawings
Bringing together the drawings that illustrated a book of poetry by Regina Guimarães (Levantamento, ed. Hélastre, 2024), to which others from the same source have been added, Paulo Scavullo’s exhibition, quoting a verse from that book, is entitled “Amáveis Atacantes”.
These drawings, which are on the verge of becoming words, insofar as they are constructed from typographic fonts, conceal their status as potential text and invite us to decipher the hidden place of their origins.
The improbable figures on display in this exhibition parade in a sort of noisy procession of hybrid and unsettling bodies, endowed with an enormous capacity for mockery.

Paulo Scavullo (1965, Porto) is a visual artist who has been exhibiting his multidisciplinary work in solo and group exhibitions, in Portugal and abroad, since the mid-1990s.
He studied Graphic Arts at the Soares dos Reis School in Porto, completed a degree in Multimedia Art at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, where he also undertook a Master’s in Contemporary Typographic and Editorial Practices. He has produced graphic work for various cultural institutions, such as
Culturgest, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Casa Fernando Pessoa, amongst others.
He worked as an illustrator for the weekly newspaper *Expresso* in the 1990s and also designed book and album covers for various publishers. In 2002, he formed the pop band “Post Hit”, with whom he released singles and the albums *Post Hit* in 2005 and *Hitmusic* in 2015. He lives and works between Lisbon and the Alentejo.

WITH THE ABSOLUTE HEART OF THE POEM OF LIFE

With the Absolute Heart of the Poem of Life is a photography project on the Beat Generation by Margarida Rodrigues. It was launched in 2014 and is now revisited in a talk and reading session to celebrate the centenary of Allen Ginsberg.
The concept of the project was defined by a survey of all the figures linked directly or indirectly to the Beat movement, from the best known such as William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, to the more forgotten such as Elise Cowen, Diane di Prima and Gregory Corso.
Featuring the participation of various artists, the casting for the project was carried out through a comparative analysis of persona and character, based on intensive work involving the sharing and research of biographical, numerological and astrological data.
The aim was to present a more human portrait of this generation, whose stereotypical memory is often overshadowed by later cultural movements.
This project featured, at the time, the participation of Nuno Melo, Legendary Tiger Man, Pedro Barroso, Rita Redshoes, Ana Bacalhau, Mafalda Teixeira, Marta Melro, Anabela Moreira, Rute Magalhães, Rodrigo Saraiva, Alexia Queen, Marco Costa, Eduardo Frazão, Cátia Terrinca, Hugo Caroça, Charles Sangnoir, amongst many others.

Crochet Comum by Rita Kroh
Rita Teles Garcia (KROH) presents the first two pieces resulting from the Crochet Comum project at Tinta nos Nervos, as part of Lisbon Design Week.
A community-based project, it transforms poetry into material through crochet, bringing participants together to create words that form part of collective compositions. The first project was based on a poem by Maria Teresa Horta; in the second, each participant draws a challenge at random, which serves as a starting point for arriving at a word, with all the words subsequently being brought together in a joint composition.
In parallel, two workshops led by Rita Teles Garcia will take place: a beginner’s workshop, dedicated to the basics of crochet, and an intermediate-level workshop, focused on constructing words.
The presentation and workshops reinforce the relationship between gesture, language and collective creation, stitch by stitch, word by word.
