In September 2022, Faria e Silva released the Complete Works of Fante Bukowski, a work written and illustrated by the American author Noah Van Sciver. This book was originally published in the United States by Fantagraphics and compiled this year in a new edition, which is the basis of this Brazilian version, it is now, exclusively, at Tinta nos Nervos.
Living in a seedy motel, rubbing shoulders with the downtrodden and middle-level literati, Fante Bukowski must overcome major obstacles: a love interest-turned-rival, writing the memoirs of a teenage celebrity, and no real talent - to earn the respect and adoration of critics, and, most importantly, of his father. Van Sciver created a blunt, comical, and empathetic character of a self-styled writer, determined to prove that he is not just another poem (or drink) away from success.
Originally published in hardcover in 2020, The Complete Works of Fante Bukowski sold out quickly and was nominated for the 2021 Eisner Award for Best Graphic Album. This edition brings additional content, including an interview with Fante himself and a gallery of covers from previous books.
And also: a preface by the novelist Ryan Boudinot; a facsimile reproduction of Bukowski's literary debut, 6 Poems (believed to be lost in time after a motel fire); a "Works Cited" section ; and a selection of "visual tributes" from more than two dozen artists - including Nina Bunjevac, Simon Hanselmann, Jesse Jacobs, Ed Piskor, Leslie Stein , and others.
