LAMBDA Award winner and literary sensation returns with a dark and funny story about friendship conflicts
We arrived at the site of the destruction--a restaurant reduced to rubble, with tables and chairs turned upside down. Under the swampy night cover of a heat wave in Montreal, it is here that we find our protagonist, Cannon, dripping with small beads of sweat of regret. She was supposed to be closing the restaurant for the night, but instead, well, she destroyed it. The mess looks a bit like a horror scenario -- not unlike the horror movies Cannon and her best friend, Trish, watch together. Cooking dinner and immersing herself in Aussie horror movies at their scheduled weekly meetings became the connecting link in their routine relationship. In high school, they were the salvation of theother--two second-generation Chinese queer nerds trapped in the suburbs. Now, in the less cool part of their twenties, each other's essentiality seems harder to define.
