Un Autre Monde. From Grandville.
In French, Carton cover, 232 pages. French language, 23 x 32 cm. Pandora 2011. Grandville is the artistic pseudonym of the French illustrator Jean Ignace Isidore Gérard, born in 1803 in Nantes. His anthropomorphic caricatures of animal-headed figures and human mannerisms influenced generations of artists, gaining special and subsequent resonance with the surrealist movement. Due to this ability to comment on the most complex, comical or insidious of the human soul and life, his images are able to maintain an extraordinary freshness and topicality to this day. The huge almost-facsimile ensemble in this edition of Un autre monde is a good expression of this.
