Portraits 2nd edition, by André Ruivo.
In Portuguese, 30 x 42cm, colors, edition Tinta nos Nervos.
«Large and full, with eleven portraits where the pastel is not afraid to dirty the paper. Portraits such as those of kings, of the clergy; later of the rich merchants and bourgeoisie; after the people, the neighbors, the family... André Ruivo fills the reader's gaze with the cellular expression of the oil pastry. It forces us to see the skin of the pages, it completes our interpretation of that unusual thing that is to look at the eyes of others through the light of creativity. And, strangely, it does so in a "classical" way." This is how João Eduardo Ferreira described this fictional, inventive and affective album, by André Ruivo now reissued by Tinta nos Nervosin association with The Inspector Cheese Adventures, the author's label. The graphic conception continues to be Jorge Silva's, fully maintaining the singular characteristics of this work: the dimension in an A3 size, the chromatic intensity of the figures, the proximity generated by the warm tonality of the paper and the handling on an immeasurable scale with the (suggested?) unfolding between those who see and are seen.
