Cheap Rent. Stuart de Carvalhais.
192 pages, black and white; Cardboard cover. 10.50 x 14.80 cm. Chili with meat.
This small anthology brings together all the cartoons that one of the great masters of Portuguese modernist drawing created between 1923 and 1925 for the legendary anarchist newspaper A Batalha and its Illustrated Supplement, on the occasion of an exhibition at the National Library of the same material, and edited by collaborators of the current version of the same organ. A graphic reporter of a Portuguese reality that did not always have the right to visibility, Stuart reveals himself here not only a scathing witness of his time, but also echoes realities that are still ongoing today.
