Un monde sans limites. By Frédéric Bruly Bouabré.
French language. 5 continents editions & MoMa.
Little known in the Ivory Coast where he was born, Frédéric Bruly Bouabré (1923-2014) gained special visibility and recognition after his participation in the exhibition Magiciens de la terre, which took place in Paris in 1989, and in the many exhibitions that followed, all over the world. This catalogue reproduces the approximately six hundred drawings presented in the first major retrospective exhibition of this artist, also a writer and linguist, presented at the MoMa Museum of Modern Art.
Author of an unusual work that combines writing and image, glossing syllables, words and indexing objects, characters, stories or situations in a visually seductive mapping of multiple African realities, Frédéric Bruly Bouabré creates structures for understanding and recreating the world, in series that he called Alphabet bété, Civilisation Bété or Mythologie Bété. A rare book.
