Esoteria. Wandrille Maunoury.
In French, 120 pages. 16x24 cm . Soft cover. See Cocagne.
"Esoteria" is the name of a bar that intrudes into the lives of a couple who are about to separate.
Diane is talkative, demanding, unsatisfied, eager for more life, more sensations, especially eager to finally do something with her existence. Ellie is calm, studious, unwelled, longs for serenity, but doesn't know how to satisfy her companion who is obviously derailed. The two women love each other, but they can't stand each other.
Suddenly, the story that seemed to be just the tale of a couple adrift, between external temptations and screams, falters. A ghost begins to accompany Diane who finds herself, in a game of chance, in the mysterious club "Esotéria".
The story surprises first of all by the vitality of its graphics: dynamic ink and acidic and contrasting colors. The reader is first mistreated by the author, then he lets himself be carried away by this very particular universe that, like the Ellie/Diane couple, like Diane's reason, falters and sinks into delirium.
